Prism Kites Design & Technology
Prism's passion for flight is matched only by their fascination with the technology that makes it possible. DaVinci sketched flying machines, gliders, and kites 400 years ago, but it’s modern materials that create the strong and incredibly lightweight structures that allow us to fly.
Miles beyond the wood-and-paper kites of your childhood, Prism kites are made possible by the same space-age materials that shape fighter jets, race cars, and high-performance sports equipment. Graphite and fiberglass composites provide lightweight and rigid frames. Mylar laminates, stabilized ripstop polyester and Kevlar reinforcements give them low-stretch, gossamer sails that will handle even the transgressions of a beginner. And Spectra fiber lines (not cheap but awesomely strong) provide instant, no-stretch response with minimum weight and aerodynamic drag. Leonardo would be impressed.
The coolest materials deserve the best engineering, and Prism understands the dynamics of kites better than anyone in the business. They carefully craft every design for maximum performance, and their design team combines a scientist’s understanding of aerodynamics and engineering with an artist’s sense of design, color, and proportion to produce kites that look as good as they fly. They love what they do, and it shows in every kite they build.
